Serpent and Hautboy

Serpent and hautboy were two musical instruments frequently found side by side in Renaissance, Baroque, and early military bands. While different in appearance and mechanics, both played a crucial role in the evolution of modern wind and bass instruments. 

Serpent:- A bass wind instrument dating back to the late16th century, shaped in a distinctive, snake-like double S curve. The serpent is a low-pitched lip-reed family wind instrument. It produces a deep mellow sound and was originally invented in 16th century France to accompany male voices in church plain songs. It was later adopted by military bands because of its robust volume and portability. 

Hautboy: Also spelled hautbios, the name coming from French meaning highwood, referring to its high pitch and wooden construction. 

It features a double reed mouth piece and was a prominent item 17th and 18th century orchestras and military marching bands.

Harun al Rashid on his roaming the country side, saw a fisherman who did not have any catch for the day and worried about his family's bread. The Caliph had brought him to the banks of Tigris and asked him to throw the net. When they pulled the net the catch was a locked heavy chest. The Caliph paid him one hundred dinars. When the story was completed by the young man the king was astonished. "By God, I will hang none," said the king. But he had already decided to find out the slave who played trick on the young man. He said to Ja'far, "Go to the city and bring the slave, or I will strike your neck." Ja'far left in tears in search of the slave. How could he identify the slave who snatched the apple from the young man's son. He thought, "There is no escape from death this time, for the jar cannot be saved everytime.
