Grazed

In chapter 4 of Great Expectations, Pip compares Joe Gargery in his holiday clothes as a scarecrow.  Pip imagines that his holiday clothes are unnatural on him that they seem to be hanging from him like the clothes on a scarecrow.  Pip observes that Joe is perfectly home in his blacksmith's working clothes, but in his holiday clothes he looks awkward and artificial. 

A scarecrow is a human shaped model made of sticks and old clothes, placed in a field to frighten birds from seeds and crops.
