Affectation of candour

Affectation of candour means a fake, pretentious, or put on display of fairness, honesty or open-mindedness. 

Meaning of the terms:

• Affectation: Artificial, pretentious behaviour or a false show adopted to impress others. 

• Candour: Honesty, frankness, or a generous disposition to think well of and judge others fairly.

• Combined: Acting like you are fair, unbiased, and forgiving when you are actually just pretending. 

In Chapter 4 of Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth Bennett use this while speaking to her sister Jane.
