Sleet

Sleet is a type of winter precipitation, consisting of small, frozen ice pellets or partly frozen rain. 

How sleet forms: It starts as snow. It assumes flake form in cold clouds high in the sky. Then it falls through a deep subfreezing layer just above the earth, causing them to refreeze into tiny ice pellets before hitting the ground.
