Banns

Banns are public announcement in a church or town office that two people plan to get to married.  This is to let everyone know, so that no one with a valid legal or moral reason why the couple should not be wed can speak up. 

How Banns Work 

•The upcoming wedding is read out aloud.

• According to traditions read it on three Sundays in a row. 

• Read in home church of both the partners.

This gives enough time for people to object if there is valid reason.
