Marco Polo in Central Asia: 31: The Province of Kotan

Cotan is a province between northeast and east, and is eight days journey in length. [1]  The people adore Mohammed.  The province has a number of cities and castles. The capital is a noble town, called by the name of the kingdom.  They have all things in abundance, a large supply of silk, and have vineyards and good orchards.  They carry on merchandise and manufactures. But men are not at arms.

Notes:-
It is likely Hotan, located in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The previous station of Marco Polo was Yarkand in the same region; but it is about 330 kilometres southeast of Yarkand. In fact Yarkand is Northwest of Cotan.
