Marco Polo in Central Asia: 44: Khans after Genghis
After the death of Genghis Khan the rulers in the order of succession were: Cui, Bacui, Alton, Mangou, and Kublai. Kublai was most powerful and greater than the rest.
The great lords of the lineage of Genghis Khan were buried in a lofty mountain, Altai, at a distance of a hundred day. I will tell you another striking wonder: When the bodies of the Khans are carried to the mountain, the conductors put to sword all the men whom they meet on the road, saying, "Go and serve the great lord in the other world." And they do same to the horses, killing the best of the stock. When Mangou Khan died, 20000 men were slain, who had been met on the road, on the way to burial ground.
