Fugui (Modern day Fuzhou) is the capital of the kingdom of Concha[1] One of the nine parts of Manji (Southern China). Plenty of merchandise and art. Here also the subjects are idolaters.  Ghan keeps there a strong army because the towns and castles often revolt, and whenever they occur the troops close in and quell them.  Through the middle of the city flows a river, a mile broad; here much sugar is made, and an extensive trade is carried on in precious stones and pearls, which are brought by merchants from India and its isles.  It is also near the port of Zaitun (modern day Quanzhou) on the ocean.  From there come the ships of Hindostan with much merchandise and they ascent by the great river to Fugui( Fuzhou).  The people have abundance of all things necessary for subsistence; fine gardens with good fruits; and the city is wonderfully well ordered in all respects. But, we will now go on to other matters.
