Marco Polo's Voyage to Indian Seas: 14: The kingdom of Lambri [1]

Lambri is a kingdom having a sovereign of its own, who owns the supremacy of the Khan. All people are idolators; they have a great abundance of camphor and other spices; likewise Brazil wood.  This they sow, and when it has grown to a little twig, they transplant it to another place, and at the end of three years root it up.  We brought some of these to Venice, but it did not spring at all on account of the cold.  I will tell you another wonderful story; there are men in this kingdom who have tails like that of dogs, larger than a palm and who are covered with hair.  They remain in the mountains, never visiting the towns.

There are unicorns, and other beasts and birds for hunting.  Now let us depart and tell you of Fansur.

Notes:-

1. Kingdom of Lambri:  It is modern day region of Lamuri, also known as 

Lhokseumawe, which is located in the Aceh province of Indonesia. Other names Lamri and Lamuri in northern Sumatra 

2. Men with tails of dogs: Regarding this there are two interpretation: a) Marco Polo might have encountered individuals with a genetic conditions that caused them to have elongated skin growth, spina bifida.
