Arabian Nights: 218th Night: Anis al Jalis, The Slave Girl - 18

The following night Shahrazad said:

I heard, O happy King, that the Caliph said to Ja'far, I will meet the pious men assembled at the function of circumcision of Ibrahim's sons at Palace of statues.
Ja'far the vizier said, "It is very late and the gathering may be over now."
"I must go," said the Caliph.  Ja'far was perplexed, and did not know what to do.

The Caliph, and Ja'far accompanied by Masrur the eunuch left the palace disguised as merchants. They went through the streets of Baghdad and reached the Garden of Delight.  The Caliph went up to the gate and was surprised to find it opened.
He said to his vizier, "O Ja'far, Shaikh Ibrahim has left the gate open to this hour. It is unusual for him."
They entered and crossed the garden, and stood before the palace.
Caliph said to his vizier, "Ja'far, let us watch them secretly."  Then he looked around and saw a tall tree. Its branches come near up to one of the windows.  He climbed the tree, moved from one branch to another and reached the nearest branch to the window.   He looked through the window and saw a young man and a lady who looked like two moons.  Shaik Ibrahim had been holding a wine cup in his hand, and saying, "O mistress of fair woman, wine without song is better left in the jug; the poet says:

Pass round the cup of wine, and
Drink not without song, it's known
Even horses needs whistling to sip.

Caliph boiled with anger, and climbed down the tree, and said to Ja'far, "My eyes have seen the pious men assembled there.  Climb the tree, and look at them."  Though puzzled, Ja'far climbed the tree and looked at Ibrahim drinking together with Nur al-Din and Anis al Jalis.  Ja'far climbed down and stood before the Caliph. Both of them were puzzled and worried how the young couple entered the palace.  But they were very much attracted by the beauty of the young man and the woman.  They decided to climb the tree again and sit on different branches.  They climbed again and sat on two opposite branches.  Looking through the window they heard Ibrahim said to the girl, "O mistress of fair women, what else do we need for this banquet?
She replied, "Shaikh, if you had some musical instruments, our joy would be complete."

But morning overtook and Shahrazad lapsed into silence.
