Arabian Nights: 241st Night: Jullanar of the Sea -12
The following night Shahrazad said:
Jullanar's mother went to the king and announced the birth of his son. The king rejoiced, and knelt in gratitude before the Almighty.
The king bestowed robes of honour, distributed, sweets, gifts and money.
The boy was named Badr, and the name was the choice of king. He bade the princes, lords and Chamberlains to celebrate the birth with the participation of all the people. The city was decorated, jailes opened and prisoners were released. Widows and orphans were clothed and alms dispersed. Mamluks and male and female slaves were freed. A mass banquet was arranged for general public and for prominent persons. The celebrations lasted for ten full days.
On the eleventh day, the king was sitting with Jullanar and her brother, mother and cousins. The brother stood up, walked towards the child, who was in the hands of the old woman, took him, cradled him in his arms, flew with the boy out of the window, glided towards the sea, flew down and dove into the sea. The king who witnessed these scenes, let out a sharp cry, as if his soul has almost left his body.
Jullanar held the king in her hands, and said, "O king of the age! Do not weep and wail. He is mine too. I love him more. And he is with his uncle. Don't be frightened! My son will come back safely with his uncle."
Soon the sea began to surge. Suddenly, Sayih, the boys uncle appeared on the surface of the sea, swinging with the rolling waves, and in the next instant was seen flying in the sky, and hop on the floor before Jullanar. The child was nestling in his uncle's arms. Sayih gave the child to his grandma, and said to the king, "I hope you were not frightened."
King replied, "Yes, by God I was really frightened."
"I took him there to pencil his eyelashes with a special khol blessed by Soloman the son of David."
But morning overtook and Shahrazad lapsed into silence.
