Arabian Nights: 253rd Night: Jullanar of the Sea - 24

The following night Shahrazad said:

Queen Jullanar waited for her son.  The son did not come. She was not aware of his journey overseas with his uncle Sayih in search of Jauhara.

Jullanar set out to overseas in search of her son, and reached the palace of her mother.

The mother told her of the latest developments, how Sayih and Badr came, and their mission to the palace of King al-Shamandal with taking bags of rubies and jewels to seek the hand of Jauhara, and how king al-Shamandal treated them when he knew that they came to seek the hand of his daughter, and how they quarrelled over it, and quarrel became a battle, of Sayih's request for forces, and how she sent one thousand fully armed horsemen to the battlefield, and how Sayih and his men won the battle and took al-Shamandal a prisoner, and how king Badr without her knowledge and leave, and without knowing that his uncle had won the battle, ran away. And since then they had no news of him.  Sayih has sent men in every direction in search of Badr and Jauhara.

Jullanar grieved deeply over the flight of his son. She was furious over her brother Sayih taking her son without her permission. "Where is my brother?" She asked her mother.
Her mother said, "He is sitting on the throne of al-Shamandal."

She said to her mother, "O mother, I am worried about our kingdom; I came to you without letting anyone know, and I fear that if I tarry, someone may maneuver against me and take the kingdom from me.  I have no choice but to go back soon.  But do not forget my son Badr, or neglect his case, because if he dies, I will certainly die too, for I cannot live or enjoy life without him."

Her mother replied, "With all my heart!  O my daughter, do not ask how much I have suffered because of his absence."
Then she too sent men to look for king Badr.

Morning overtook and Shahrazad lapsed into silence.
