Kublai Khan was the grandson of Genghis Khan. He received the Polo brothers kindly and joyfully. He was seeing the Europeans for the first time. He inquired the Polo brothers what sort of emperor they had, and how he lived and administered justice. He also asked about Supreme Pontiff, and all about the Christians. They answered these questions judiciously, in Tartar language, which they knew already.
